Framework Knitters Museum
I am immensely proud of the evolution of the Framework Knitters Museum, which has continued to thrive beyond my tenure as manager. When I first joined, the museum had limited visibility, low visitor numbers, and a narrow focus on Ruddington’s knitting trade history. Through a transformative process, we redefined its purpose, expanding its narratives to encompass the industry as a whole, the plight of its workers, Luddism, and the birth of the machine Lace Industry.

By creating a platform for contemporary textile artists and introducing a pioneering digital learning resource—one that later won a European Award for innovation—the museum secured its place as a dynamic and forward-thinking institution. Today, it stands as a vibrant cultural landmark, continuing to break new ground and inspire audiences with its bold, ambitious approach.

This journey led to a broader expansion strategy, which has since been fully realized. Key achievements included:
-
A revolutionary approach to retail within the museum sector
-
A strategic rebranding initiative
-
Sponsorship partnerships, including local brewery collaborations
-
A new alliance with the Nottingham Society of Artists
-
An immersive reinterpretation of the entire site
-
The acquisition of a neighbouring building, which now houses the museum’s shop and café
The museum’s rebranding and enhanced audience engagement have significantly elevated its profile, transforming it into a cornerstone of the community and a valuable contributor to the local economy.
